The Max Kriss papers cover the period from about 1915 to 1940, with the bulk from 1918 to 1936. Approximately half of the material consists of class and laboratory notebooks, from courses which he attended and taught, but also includes his publications, correspondence, dissertation research, reports, research materials, photographs, newspaper clippings, and articles and family materials from his son, Joseph Kriss, including class notes and watercolor paintings.

Max Kriss (1894-1941) was an animal nutritionist and educator. Born in Russia, he came to the United States in 1910, and was educated at the Pennsylvania State College and Yale. He returned to the Penn State faculty as associate professor (1929; professor 1936 to 1941), working with Dr. Henry P. Armsby in the Institute of Animal Nutrition.
